High on the hill, but deeply rooted in Sunnyside and its people
For over 70 years, Our Saviour’s Evangelical Lutheran Church has been a part of the Sunnyside Community. Our members are, and have been active in our local Fire Department, helping organizations like Nuestra Casa to get off the ground, and assisting the Help Up group of local churches provide winter gear for our needy population each fall.
We are currently responding to the need for food assistance in Sunnyside. Our Pantry, our monthly free breakfasts, and our cooperation and mutual support among the various other groups trying to help, are just what happens when a church actually hears the word and lets the word be their guide.
In addition we provide space for our local theater troupe, the Over The Hill Theatricals; Nouvella, a community-service and scholarship organization; and a delightful group of quilters. (Maybe for you and your group as well?) For the last eight years, we have also provided a home for The House of Prayer / Casa de Oracion church.
It’s how we answer our mission.
Our faith guides us to be a blessing to our neighbors, because it is frankly easier to show someone God’s love than explain it to them in lofty speeches.
Here you will find a welcoming, affirming community of Christians gathered around the idea that their faith should mean something, that it should be a benefit to their neighbors and to their community. They will do their best to make you feel at home, explain to you anything you might need, and sing beside you in the pews.
And they will worship like this! (This past weekend’s service)
The worship style is traditional, the word is passionately delivered, and the inspiration is aimed outward, to fulfill the mission that God gave Abraham, “in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” (Genesis 12:3b)
Worship is at 10 each Sunday,
with Bible Study at 9,
and Fellowship at 11
