Christmas week at OSELC
Our Saviour’s is celebrating the Saviour’s birth this week with services and activities to mark the Christmas season.
On Wednesday, Dec. 21, OSELC will observe a “Blue Christmas” ceremony with other churches to provide encouragement for those who have experienced loss or discouragement. The service is at 6 p.m. in the Holy Trinity Episcopal Church Chapel, 327 E. Edison Ave.
On Saturday, Dec. 24, Our Saviour’s Evangelical Lutheran Church will host a Christmas Eve candlelight ceremony at 7:30 p.m.
Dec. 24 also marks the deadline to drop off new or gently used socks that will be donated to homeless adults and children in Yakima County.
The week culminates with an exumenical Christmas Day service on Sunday, Dec. 25, at 9:30 a.m. at Sunnyside Presbyterian Church, 737 S. 16th St.
All events are open to the public and all are welcome!
National Night Out
Our Saviour’s will again be participating in National Night Out from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 2.
The church will host one of the block parties in Sunnyside that night, with a focus on encouraging neighbors to get better acquainted. Food and prizes will be provided. Police and fire personnel will also visit during the festivities.
Join us for an opportunity to get better acquainted as we celebrate National Night Out together.
Lenten season
During the season leading up to Easter Sunday on March 27, Our Saviour’s is meeting 7 p.m. each Wednesday for Lenten services at Sunnyside United Methodist Church, 906 E. Edison Ave. There is a potluck supper at 6 p.m. right before the service.
This time of remembrance and commitment culminates with special plans for Easter Sunday, March 27. OSELC will offer an early SonRise service, followed by breakfast and the traditional Easter service at 10 a.m.
Red Wine and Chocolate
Feb. 14 is on a Sunday this year and in keeping with Valentine’s Day, Our Saviour’s is once again hosting a Red Wine and Chocolate event. After the 10 a.m. Worship service on Feb. 14, OSELC will have red wine and chocolate accompanied by hors d’oeuvres provided by members.
A minimum donation of $5 per person is requuested, with all proceeds benefitting the church’s ministries in the community.
During the celebration a raffle drawing for a homemade quilt is also planned.
Season’s givings
Christmas is more than season’s greetings, it’s a season of giving at Our Saviour’s. That includes an Angel Tree program in which members can provide Christmas presents for children in need.
Also coming up this season is OSELC’s dinner theater performance of Christmas Letters: The Musical at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 16.
At 6 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 20, OSELC will also host a Longest Night/Blue Christmas service. Held in conjunction with several other chuches, the service is intended to offer spiritual support for those are grieving or are depressed.
The season’s givings concludes with Our Saviour’s annual Christmas Eve service at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 24. The candlelit service will include special music and encouragement.

Fall Fellowship
With the season changing to fall, Our Saviour’s is planning a season of fellowship.
Starting on Sunday, Sept. 13, OSELC will resume its book group or Sunday School class at 8:30 a.m.
Also this month, WELCA will hold a special salad supper event at Our Saviour’s at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 22.
Led by Paul Brooks, OSELC will be putting on a musical, with a script read through set for Sunday, Sept. 27, at 9:15 a.m. and tryouts set for Wednesday, Sept. 30, at 6:30 p.m.
September will wrap up with a pair of special events on Saturday, Sept. 26. From 1-3 p.m. that day will be the annual Blessing of the Animals at Sunnyside’s Central Park. At 5:30 p.m. later that same day, OSELC will host its monthly game night at the church.
The last Sunday of this month, Sept. 27, will feature an end of summer BBQ at OSELC following morning worship.
Looking ahead to October, Our Saviour’s next month will participate in World Communion Sunday on Sunday, Oct. 4, at 10 a.m. On Tuesday, Oct. 6, OSELC will join Immanuel Lutheran Church at Grandview for a Second Harvest food distribution for those in need.

National Night Out 2015
Sunnyside’s annual National Night Out program on Tuesday, Aug. 4, will include a block party at Our Saviour’s!
From 6 to 8 p.m. OSELC will offer a free party with a BBQ and all the trimmings; including watermelon, cake and hot dogs.
During the block party, open and free to all, Our Saviour’s will host a Sunnyside fire truck and other city officials to encourage us together as a community and neighbors.
There will be games for the kids, face painting and even a free raffle!
So come one, come all, to the block party @ OSELC on Aug 4!
