Breakfast in the park
As a part of our effort to blunt the sting of hunger in Sunnyside, we got together on Friday the 18th of July and made around 50 breakfast burritos, with eggs, sausage, potatoes, onions, and cheese, most ingredients donated by either members from their gardens and chicken coops, donated by our partners at Sunnyside Grocery Outlet, or purchased locally.
We gathered, cooked, and then brought the whole assembly down to Centennial Square where we gave out almost all of the food, quite a lot of coffee, and a fair bit of juice and maybe a little hope. Out of concern for privacy, we do not have pictures of the folks who came to us to talk, and share some food, but the crew from up at Our Saviour’s was Wendy Casas, Dawn Martin, Pastor Tim Carnahan, Paul Brooks, Terri Kennedy, Debbie Mendoza (behind the camera), and Allan Schritter.

We gained a lot of insight into the situation in Sunnyside. We gathered a larger group than we had anticipated, and had long, fruitful conversations about where the needs lie, how these things happen to people, and how we might, as a community in faith, address these issues.
We will most certainly be back, and perhaps we will add an evening meal a couple of times a year, gathering the wider community, and showing God’s love.
